hemp education

According to a survey by the National Restaurant Association, CBD-infused food and drinks are predicted as the top trend in the food and beverage industry. Here’s what you need to know about why experimental dining is both popular and beneficial.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound that naturally occurs in both hemp and marijuana plants. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) CBD has no psychoactive properties. Meaning, you won’t experience any mind-altering effects associated with getting “high” from THC. According to a report from the World Health Organization, CBD does not exhibit effects that are indicative of any abuse or dependence potential.

Currently, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” Research also suggests that CBD has medicinal benefits that may positively influence pain, inflammation, temperature stress, appetite, memory and more.

How does it work?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is responsible for regulating essential bodily functions such as sleep, mood, appetite, and memory. It works to regulate crucial bodily functions by binding to receptors in the brain and signaling the ECS to take action.

There are two primary endocannabinoid receptors: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors can be found found in the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are located in the peripheral nervous system. Today, experts believe that maintaining homeostasis is the primary role of the ECS.

glossary

Cannabinoid

The chemical compounds found within the cannabis and hemp plants. Cannabinoids come in both psychoactive and non-psychoactive varieties, but all of them act upon the human body’s endocannabinoid system.

Endocannabinoid system (ECS)

A complex system within the human body that affects many important functions, including how a person moves, feels, and reacts. It includes endocannabinoids, endocannabinoid receptors, and endocannabinoid enzymes.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

The main cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and is responsible for the majority of the plant’s psychoactive properties.

Strain

A particular “strain” is determined by a combination of factors including botanical lineage, appearance, chemical profile, and accompanying effects.

Terpenes

The aromatic and flavor compounds found within cannabis/hemp (and nearly every other plant on the planet), terpenes are responsible for the veritable rainbow of cannabis strains, which all exhibit subtle differences in smell and flavor.

The Entourage Effect

The theory that combinations of certain terpenes and cannabinoids work synergistically to enhance unique effects and benefits of the strain.

CBD Distillate

CBD Distillate is a highly refined cannabis extract often derived from high CBD hemp flower and hemp biomass. CBD Distillate typically contains around 80% CBD with the balance including minor cannabinoids, terpenes and other plants oils and extracts.

CBD Isolate

A solution containing only one cannabinoid: CBD. Isolate does not contain any THC, a psychoactive cannabinoid, making CBD isolate a perfect option for those who seek a THC-free product.

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil

An oil or product contains all the cannabinoids that are found in the cannabis plant in nature, this includes THC. With full spectrum CBD, you are getting more than 100 different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

A mix between full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. It contains the entire spectrum of cannabinoids EXCEPT for the THC part.

Extraction

The technique used to separate the chemical components of cannabis/hemp from the physical plant.

Edible

Food or candy products infused with marijuana. Edibles must be digested in order to take effect, and as a result, it may take more time to feel their effects.

Dosing

The quantity of medicine prescribed at one time. Dosing CBD depends on therapeutic goals, as well as how it is ingested or applied.
